Happy Bastille Day
No one in France calls it that. But on this day in 1789, les citoyens stormed a prison and freed, I think, 7 people. Ah, propaganda. Ah, bored upper-middle class students. But hey, it led to that groovy reign of terror, and set the stage for getting rid of their royalty... eventually. There was that fun WWF-esque head chopping thing, and the whole jacobins and thermidorians septemberists thing, and of course, Napoleon, later, took advantage of it all. But hey, guess what, this is also a national holiday in Iraq. Go figure.

Ignorance and Apathy and Israel, Oh My
Israel bombed some runways in Beirut, and they’ve set up a blockade offshore of Lebanon, and fighting in the Gaza strip continues, and the white house is blaming all of this on Iran and Syria, Russia and France blame Israel, and me, I don’t know nearly enough to make sardonic or even sarcastic comments. I’m a reasonably intelligent guy, reasonably well educated, and I just don’t know why they fight in Israel and Palestine. I know why they do today, I mean, this latest debacle all started because Palestinians kidnapped some Israeli soldiers near the border. But why has this been going on? Is it really over holy land? Didn’t the world figure out, during the crusades, that such fighting doesn’t really amount to much? What I need is a book like The Middle-East for Dummies because anything else would be too politically slanted and my apathy-shield would rise up again to protect me from agenderizing. Until then, I’ll just assume that, like all the other power-elites in the world, it’s about the money.

Gun Control Vs. $econd Amendment
I got an idea for gun control, which no one will like. Especially the NRAzis who have the 2nd Amendment tattooed to their foreheads. We have to have insurance for our cars, and doctor’s have to have malpractice. Why not require gun owners to carry insurance? We all know that if there’s money in it, the government will get behind it. The insurance companies can decide which guns they will and won’t insure, and can tie it to home ownership. Also, this gives prosecutors another tool to use against criminals. So the "we need 'em for protection" people will be bolstering their protections, and the "why does anyone need an AK-47" people will be able to pressure the insurance companies instead of the NRA nuts. Will it happen? I dunno, who’s lobbyists are meaner, the NRA’s or the insurance companies’?

Beltway Barbie
There’s a new book out called Ann Coulter is a skinny blond idiot (an obvious reference to the Al Franken book Rush Limbaugh is Big Fat Idiot). You can go to David Springmeyer’s website, www.beltwaybarbie.com and check it out. I don’t know if I’m going to read it. I mean, what’s the point? I know she’s an idiot, and I’ve already said what the author is saying, (indeed, the whole point of this website), that it’s more about personality than it is about substance, or even facts. He’d be preaching to the choir. Still, it might be good for a laugh someday. Lots of other things to read first, thought.

North Korea, The Irritating Jerk on Big Brother
North Korea fired that missile, and Japan wants to sanction them. NK says if anyone levies economic sanctions, they’ll consider it an act of war. Well well well. You know, they say NK played nice back in the day when Clinto was Prez, mainly because they got paid to play nice. And now they are getting paid to play mean? If so, it’s bad timing, since the UsofA is running out of soldiers in Iraq—- of course, America is not the only playa, maybe someone else is doing the goadin'? Pretty scary. North Korea is on the verge of becoming a nuclear power, and their being traded like a free agent in the NFL. Conspiracy Foaming: It’s the illuminati, you know, the stinking illuminati.

Halliburton Is Out
Maybe. The Army has decided not to take the next option on the Halliburton contract; instead, they’ll divvy up the work amongst three contractors, with a fourth contractor acting as an oversight. What what what? They are FINALLY getting in an oversight group, to make sure soldiers are being fed expired rations or served dirty water for drinking? What took you so long? Oh, yeah, that’s right, Halliburton didn’t have to bid on the contract at all to get it, did they? So, better late than never/ Halliburton IS allowed to bid on the new contracts, too, but they probably won't, as things are starting wind down over there. Yes, that's right. The war is overish, and the best sign of that is the big money dumptrucks moving out. Where to next? North Korea? Gaza? Hold your breath, it’s okay, you'll be breathing long before asphyxiation.

More Tomorrow or Sunday
More to talk about, but I am late in posting this as it is. I read a Michael Savage book, wanna talk more about Israel, the whole Karl Rove lawsuit, senate seats up for grabs, and of course the devastation in Bombay. I'll get on it asap.
