GoP Polls Looking Grim
Recent polls show that more or less, only about 1/3 of the country approves of our president and of the Republican controlled congress. That would be good news for lefties and Democrats, with just seven weeks before the mid-term elections. Unfortunately, it's tough to get that many people to vote. It's hard to get people just to vote for president, not to mention mere senators, and you might as well stop making noises about demographics this and education that. Apathy is a disease that hits everyone regardless of microculture. I myself am a recovering apathetic. There's an old adage, that when more people vote, Democrats win, and so apathy is a vote for Republicans. So to say that the Republican approval rating is only at 33 percent does not, unfortunately, belie future voting results. Let’s just hope that the perception that congress has been screwing up over the last 6 years leaks over into the hearts and minds of even those who weren't polled.

George Allen, Opportunist
The Republican senator from Virginia, macacagate's own George Allen, has announced that his mother was probably Jewish. He learned this, he claims, from a magazine. Not too long ago, when asked about his mother's ancestry, he was nearly vitriolic in his refusal to answer the question. But now that it's been shown he's a racist, he's ready to truck out his own minority status. What a shallow, asinine attempt at excusing himself for the comments he made. Yes, George, we all know what a tragedy it is that only black people can say the N word. Is this guy for real? I am so looking forward to the highlight reel on election night. Sheesh.

The Crazy Nutty UN
Yesterday at the UN Assembly, Iran's president Ahmadinejad described the US and it's role in the UN as hypocritical. Grain of salt, of course, as this is the same guy who denies the holocaust and says Israel should be wiped off the map. Still, he asked, in a quote you're going to see over and over again, "if the government of the United States or the United Kingdom, who are permanent members of the UN security council, commit aggression, occupation, and violation of international law, which of the organs of the UN can take them into account?" Good point. But the real fun started when Hugo Chavez of Venezuela jumped up to the podium. He call Bush, literally, the devil, And to add more fuel to the neocon's fire when they attack the man, he quoted Noam Chomsky. (He also said that Chomsky was dead, which he is not). Bolton, the US rep, used the old party-line, but this time I agree with it: he pointed out that at the UN, and in the US, at least they have the freedom to say these things. Back in Iran and in Venezuela, they don't grant their citizens such freedoms. Who's a hypocrite now? I'm not going to get all pro-Bush here, but let's buck the man on what he's done, not on procedure, because the power-mongers can fix procedure a lot faster than become moral human beings.

Checking in with Ann
Since the news has been the same thing more or less for the past several days, I thought I'd check in with Ann Coulter, the original inspiration for Antipundit. So iread her weekly column. Sigh. I should have known. It's the same old things. She's railing at McCain and company for being opposed to George Bush's desired rape of the Geneva conventions. And her rhetoric is the same tired boring nonsense from her other writing. She works in Reagan, Hitler, Churchill, Vietnam... Yawn. She calls Muslims savages. She says liberals are stupid (ahem-- Mcain is a conservative. Relevance?) Ann, for the love of the Jesus you claim to worship, get some new material! The choir you preach to has gone home, hit the sack, and is snoring peacefully away!
