Today is my brother's birthday. Happy 30th!

DDR'd lots. I am getting better-- I managed a B on a 9-footer (after much practice) and survived a few others. I'd like to get an A on all the Heavy songs by the end of March. I think that's realistic.

Watched Strictly Ballroom and Snatch. Strictly is a funny little movie, very much worth renting-- I would have liked to have seen the extra scenes and such, but Snatch was popped in. I had seen it before, of course, but Snatch is still an excellent film-- I'm going to go ahead and put in my top 10 all-time favorites. I don't know what else is in that list-- maybe later I will compile it and let you know.

Hello. Monday mornning and all that. Here is today's philisophical thought: To know something is to destroy it. Now, be sure to note that, the Philisophical Thought of the Day (the PTotD) is not something you try to prove correct or incorrect. It is not an opinion with which you agree or disagree, a theory, or even a point of view. It is a morsel. Assume it is true, and meditate on the implications of that truth. THEN, if you still must, declare it as true or untrue. But don't dismiss it out of hand. Not if you want to play. But, you don't have to play if you don't want to, of course.

More updates later, of course. In the meanwhile, I'll just throw out there, that, being myself something of a gynotikolobomassophile, I can only hope I someday find a woman of similar ilk. So, with that in mind, here is my ear:

Dropped my brother's gift off at the post office, visited Target where I got more rubber ducks (photos pending-- waiting for good daylight to photograph them by). Then DDR, o' course, and then bowling. Not my night! But we managed two points off them. We're third now, and probably not moving up soon. I need to practice. Anyone feel like throwing 8-16 pounds of urethane at 30 pounds of plastic-coated wood?

Hi. I am awake. And how are you. Good I hope. I am listening to Michelle Branch. What are you doing?

I updated the linkography. Man, that took a while. It's been a month since I last updated it. It's still full of inconsistencies and errors. But I did change the format just a wee bit. It's less readable now, but more interesting, I think. Sort of. Oh well. Update: Corrected most of the errors. Might still be a few. Need to come up with a few more categories, such as "retail stores" and perhaps one for "websites that serve no purpose other than for their own sake." OH MY GOSH I ALMOST FORGOT TO CHECK OUT HOMESTAR TODAY! Whew! New answering machine and new live-action puppets. Fun.

I woke up this morning convinced of the existence of the word epistigram. Brains are weird, dreams are weird. Anyway, it doesn't exist yet, so I guess I get to decide what it means. An epistle is a kind of letter, especially a formal one, and an epigram is a shorty witty statement. The word-part -epi means "upon" as "to put upon" and -sti means "to send," and -gram means "message" -- -graph means "to write," so its the -gra which means "of writing" or, more generally, "of rendering symbolic for the purposes of communication outside the flow of real-time."

All together, this means an epistigram is "a short, brief note sent to someone." It's differentiated from an epistle by its being very brief, and it's differentiated from an epigram by its necessarilly being something that is sent. It makes sense that the chief medium for the distribution of epistigrams would be e-mail, though one might use postiit notes on a cubicle too. I think it should be noted that stopping by to see someone, finding them missing, and leaving a short note to say "hey, I dropped by," is NOT the same as leaving an epistigram, since the word should have the connotation of being motivated by the need to communicate a thought, not as a reaction to a missed act of communication.

How many epistigrams do you get in your e-mail in-box every day?

Picked up a birthday gift for Mastonia, but she reads this blog, so I can't tell you what it is (yet). Drove around looking for fried fish, bought some new rubber ducks instead (photos pending) at Tree Top toys in Montlake. They had LOTS but I restrained myself. For some reason. Not sure why. Ended up at Ivar's, finally, over on 99. Expensive! Not as good as I had hoped. Oh well. Went and did the tutoring thing. That went well. Back at home, tried to find Dribble's Live Journal entry, found a picture of him from high-school instead. The interet is weird. Went on a stuffed bear hunt with Herniminias, which was succesful, finding the one she wanted at Magic Mouse toys in Pioneer Square. And I bought another rubber duck-- a big 'un. Then we had barbecue at Longhorn Barbecue, and it was pretty good, but the conversation was way better. It's so refreshing, over the last few months, to have met a handful of people with whom I can talk at about a mile a minute, tossing out esoteric vocabulary words, and know that only are they interested in what I am saying, they understand it as well.

Coworker is sick, porcelein steering wheel-style, so I had to solo a con call first this morning. No wories. And then, or before, or during, take you pick, this: I want to be able to play import games in my PS2, and as such, need to modify the console I have now, and as such, have been looking around at ways to do that, and as such, will need to buy those import games, and I could get them on the interent, but if there was a store here in Seattle, that would be even better, and so I went to Penny-Arcade to get their opnion, since those dudes live in Seattle, and while there one of them mentioned anticipating UT2K4, and how it will assuage him till the new version Tribes comes out, and I've alway wondered about Tribes, so I downloaded the demo, and played it, and, well, I'll stick to UT2K4. Maybe, if no one requires my presence this evening, I'll play UT2K3 online for hours and hours and hours and maybe get a wee bit better and in that way be able to hold my own with the new one when it hits da streets.

For real, its like sometimes I find I would like to do something just so I can report on it in a colorful way here. Like I'll get a UT2K4 identity, kick some ass, take some screen shots, make up a web-page showcasing my experience, and show it off here. And you know what? I would even tend towards that even if I KNEW that NO-ONE reads this blog. Its like I am motivated by the idea of... well, of sorytelling, I guess. Hmm.. It bears meditation. Someone ask me about this later.

What else did I do today... Not much!

A day of DDRing in between work sessions. Made my way through all songs on Ultramix in light mode, and standard mode. Heavy remains. Ultramix fails in a few aspects: there is no continuous or oni mode (just a "challenge" mode). The in-game commentary is even worse that Max or Max2. And I think it is less forgiving on steps, especially on jumps if your feet land at different times. But, Ultramix excels in other respects. The game-mode allows you to go from one song to the next continuously, without needing to "start-over" after 3 songs. Also, all 3 level grades are displayed on one line in the music select screen, making it much easier to track your progress.

Went over to the U village to get a few books at the Barnes & Noble and to have an open-face turkey sandwich at Mom's. I got the new Harpertorch copies of Interesting Times and and Feet of Clay. I also, finally, after thinking I should for years, picked up Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter. Um, I'm not sure what the book is about. I skipped the intro and jumped right in, and after two pages, put the book aside to work on a puzzle. I'll read the introduction later.

Speaking of Terry Pratchett, finished The Truth, and just have Night Watch left to read before I can read Monstrous Regiment, but like I said before in a different blog entry, I think I might wait for the paperback version.

Over to the Tractor Tavern to see The Clumsy Lovers. Very excellent. Looks like they'll be in Chicago soon: going to inform my good buddy, the bassist for The Outlaw Family Band, and make sure they go see them. Oh, oops, who else was there: Vanity Angel, Xenon-T and her new boyfriend Healing Vision, and Burning Heat and boyfriend Tsugaru. After, VA and I went to Norm's Eatery in Fremont to not eat, since the kitchen was closed by then, and the Denny's on the edge of Ballard. The waitress was a spunky little thing, questioning me on my french-fry re-arrangement project. Call it ADD.

Got home at, what, 2, played some damn video game for half an hour, slept on the couch, got up at, like 6:30. You betcher bottom I'll be napping later.

I DDRd a lot. Damn. Finished all of the standard songs on Ultramix and most of the double-light songs on Max. Pumped up, I decided to take it to a whole new level. Check it out:

Since Madrigonia was done with the big Pharmlaw exam, we went out to celebrate. "We" being, herself, myself, Willow, Xander, and Anya. We tried Tango Tapas, but the hostess was rude. So we walked up the street to The Six Arms. We asked the waitress there if she had ever tried Tango, and she said yes, but she also said more than once people have come in and complained of how rude they were at Tango. So there you go. Tango sucks ass. Then we walked over to Dilletante's for chocolate cake. Mmm.
