chuckle factory
Hey hey hey. It's Faaaaaaat Jason. well, sorta. Just got back from San Jose. Din' know I was gone, didja? Well there you are. Mom's birthday. We had to lie to her all weekend just to keep her unwary of the various surprises. Good times. Also got to see the GF's sister's new place. Also got to see an old pal's new kid. Cute as a button. So it was the usual trip.

Also performed last night for the first time in eons. My dad got us a couple of spots at a room in the Sonoma Chicken Coop, in Campbell. The lady who runs the show is bold as brass, chargin 10 bucks a head. That's on a Sunday night! I was 4th up out of about 10. The headliner was pretty bad, fi you as me, and it turns out he's not a touring headliner, just somone the host was giving another shot to... so that's good of her. Dad did his usual awesome job. There where a coupla newbies, and they had promising stuff. And then there where the regulars, the ones I've seen with my dad before, And they did pretty good. I think folks got their money's worth.

I won't recite all the jokes here, not the longs ones. My punch-lineless joke "How many Amish people does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" got no laughs. But the one about my blind friend who buys Playboy in braille got a good laugh. He says he just feels it up for the articles. But now both hands are chapped." My standard closer go the laugh it always gets. I still don't see why, but hey, I ain't complaining.

So there it is. Maybe that's the motivation I need for doing something 'round here again. We'll see. if I get a copy of the video dad shot for this one, I'll post it up. Dig it.

Mi3 = Alias 2
That's not a complaint. Went and saw
Mission Impossible 3 the other day, and boy, it sure is obvious that it's directed by JJ Abrams. It had Felicity herself in it, as well as a cameo by Greg Grunberg. But everything else was so very Alias like. The sets in IMF's base where straight out of SD6 and APO. The way romance was part of the conflict. Duplicity, the layers of intrigue, moles, bad guys, good guys... it all had that Alias stamp. But like I said, that's not a complaint. I like Alias alot and this was more of the same. I think it was the best of the 3 films, and while some may argue for DePalma's direction of the first movie, I defy anyone to say John Woo's direction of the second was even close.

Laurence Fishburne delivered some truly excellent lines, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman was excellent as the bad guy-- even if he wasn't in the film very much. Tom Cruise did fine-- the man is not a bad actor, and takes direction well. The rest of the cast was good too: Ving Rhames, of course, and Maggie Q was a nice add. All in all, this film was very much worth the price of admission, and it is not necessary in the least to have seen the other two movies first.

There. A sort of review.

Date Movie
The trend seems to be to write on the blog when I'm not in front of this computer. If I have time to be in front of this computer, I'm usually playin WoW or messin with Photoshop or something or another. On the work PC, or my GF's comp, or the workstation at school, it's a rush to say something because I haven't in a while. But here... well, here I am. Hurray for US.

Wassup. The GF rented and we watched Date Movie the other night, which is the parody movie equivalent of Not Another Teen Movie or Scary Movie. Alas, it stunk. Allyson Hannigan, as ravishing as she is, was not enough to carry this one. I don't think any gorgeous beauty would have been, to be honest. It failed where so so many of these parody movies fail, in that it was too slow. Its as if the direcotry expected each gag to be so funny it would carry us to the next one. No. You've got to more-or-less over do it, and try very hard to not do the director's equivalent of mugging for the camera, with the long pause for the audience to "get it."

I once saw a performance of "The Importance of Being Earnest." that worked because the actors played it as if they where actors who took the role seriously. It was like double-acting. That's ther sort of subtelty you need to make a parody work.

Anyoo. Hooray for AH no matter what, but otherwise, don't waste your time with this one.
