Birthdays
I don't use real names on the Blog and avoid nicknames if I can, but I wanted to give a shout-out to some birthdays that came up this month, and a lot of them near the second half. In no particular order, The Hottest Blonde in New York, Mr. Law in LA, The Voter-Mensch of King County, Eye-Ball Pro, and Chipmaster Engineer. Happy Birthday to all y'alls!
Rock Climbing
For one of those birthdays I went with the feted and others to do something I haven't done in nearly 5 years: rock climbing. We went to Stone Gardens, the indoor-climbing gym. I took the bleay test so I could help on the ground, which was good because between climbs I fo' sho' needed to rest. The best I could manage was one 5.8, and the rest where 5.7s with rest. Back in the day I was a strong 5.9 climber, so I am out of practice and way way to dependant on my arms (worse, I think my arms are stronger now than they where then). Of course now I am all re-enthused about it and want to go again as soon as possible. I expect the soreness to kick in soon and vanquish that passion however. Hat's off, though, to the GF, who was a natural, moving up 5.7s on her first ever visit to an RCG, which made me mightily impressed.
Haunted Walks
Last week we went to Bastyr University and this week we went to Beaver Lake for their haunted Halloween walks. At Bastyr, we bought our tickets and then waited two hours before it was our turn to go-- and 10 minutes later, it was all done. The trail was very dark, and so even when people jumped out at us, we could barely see them. And everything else was just sort of, well, fake-scary. It was "fun," but not worth the wait, I think. Beaver Lake was better-- less of a wait, a full 3/4 mile walk, and better lighting. Along the trail where places where you'd walk through pre-built rooms, with horror scnes and gotcha people. At one point we where greeted by headless horseman on real horses, which was very scary. At the end they converted a pavilion into a haunted maze, which the GF liked the most. So, for me, Halloween was not as eventful as last year, but I'm satisfied.
Los Angeles
At the beginning of the week, and my lame excuse for not blogging in along time, I had to go to LA for business. No, there was no fun to be had, as I woke every day at 6 am, went in to the office, and didn't leave until 8 or later. I stayed at the Hilgard House, which was a nice place within a few miles of the office. I did get to see a friend of mine who lives there for a brief period, which was good. And they did bring sandwiches to the office for us, which was also good. So before when I said no fun was to be had, I was just saying, don't be jealous. But don't feel sorry for me either. Except on Tuesday night when my rental car got locked in a parking garage, and I had to drive over the curb to sneak out behind a monthly resident. Yeah, woe is me.
Lost Season 2
The only other thing off the top of my head I can think to report is that me and mine are in the middle of "Lost", season 2, and it's starting to stink. I mean, at the end of the episode, I should have learned something new: something should have developed. But lately, nothing. They barely have any one-episode conflicts even that need to be resolved. I'll try to tough it out for the rest of the season, but I gotta tell ya, if they don't deliver soon, I'm writing off season 3.
