I\u2019m a sucker for a pretty face. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ve developed many many crushes. But what\u2019s a crush. A fantasy, an idealism. And people let you down when they step out of the photo and say something stupid or do something stupid or forget to bother to like you back.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s a pretty face but symmetry and balance, and what\u2019s photography but an idealization of an idea. We say that a person is \u201ccaptured\u201d in a photo and let\u2019s face it: only captives are fit for being obsessed with. Free people are too complicated and nuanced and shifting in their changes to compel longing for two long.<br \/>\nWe think of our crush, and we \u201cpicture\u201d them in our minds. They\u2019re frozen, perfect, timeless.<\/p>\n<p>Until the next pretty face comes along and we start all over again. Sometimes its years later. Sometimes its minutes.
